The nervous system is the body’s command center. It controls a person’s movements, thoughts, and responses to stimuli around them. The nervous system works through cells known as neurons. These cells are electrical signals that travel between one’s organs, sending and receiving information. The nervous system is divided into two; the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system.

The central nervous system consists of the brain and the spinal cord. The brain sends signals to all body parts through nerves, protected by an outer layer known as myelin, which helps the signals get through. The other part of the nervous system is the peripheral nervous system, and it comprises all the nerves that connect the central nervous system to other parts of the body. The peripheral nervous system is further divided into the somatic nervous system and the autonomic nervous system. The former guides voluntary movements, while the latter controls involuntary movements.
